History:

I have been fascinated with free energy for most of my life. Around 20 years ago my projects started to become a lot more serious and were attracting quite a lot of local interest. I realised then that there was certainly going to be a good future for renewable energy. Each time electricity prices went up or there was a shortage of oil, the media would go crazy talking about renewables. Many of the solutions discussed on television were shear hype and bore no relation to the practical realities of making your own energy that I recognised but at least people were talking about renewable energy.

Then, early in 2000, a lorry went off the A1 near Darlington (UK) and knocked over an electricity sub-station - out went the lights. More importantly, off went four computers I was working on (I was a computer technician at the time), three of which took a lot of work to sort out afterwards. I was so annoyed that it was enough to force me into a decision about making my own energy, or at least, make a back-up system that would cut in if the mains went off again. By the end of the year I had built a shed and installed my first batteries and inverters. Since then I have become more and more involved with one project after another.

This website is just the next stage in the process as I want to complete more projects at a faster pace, and for that I need to raise funds. So it seemed to me that sharing my ideas and designs might be a good way to continue, and possibly do some good for others too.

I am not interested in the commercial development of any of my projects, as I now believe this is a contradiction of what renewables are all about. Companies have to make a profit, that's fine, but renewables is about keeping costs down and saving money by making free energy, not being locked into some corporation's profit structure. At the risk of being called a hypocrite, I have to admit that I did pursue development funding for one of my gasifiers a couple of years ago and, to be fair, the cash was offered. In addition to the funds, however, there were so many strings and constraints that the whole project would have become a nightmare, so I turned it down. I am now certain that it was the correct decision as I believe there are better, more appropriate and sustainable ways to develop renewable energy equipment, and that is what this website is all about.
